Hi guys,

Hope you can shed some light on this. I tried to start windows live messenger and everytime it starts it stops saying windows live messenger has stped working. it checks for solutions but finds nothing. it only gives me a list of files that describe the problem and these are like this...WERA8B.tmp.version.txt

Also internet explorer stops working along with windows media player oh and also my vista side bar. but I installed yahoo messenger and it comes up with the exact same thing.

Anyone know what this could be?

Cheers

Kal

Do any Internet applications work?

Do you have any 3rd part security software? Have you tried un-installing it? It rather sounds like an over-zealous "security" app murdering innocent applications.

Have you tried downloading the latest version of Windows Live Messenger and installing it?

Try a spyware scan if you haven't already.

If it's not security software with it's hooks in, then it's probably something like a data logger that's not actually working. Have you had any malware recently? Often, if you delete the malware, Windows is already broken.

You could try rebuilding your network stacks, but be sure to back up everything first because it has been known for malware to get really upset by the process and trash your machine:

It will only install programs that were installed after the system restore checkpoint was made. It does give you a list of what will be removed.
