I use the " "I Love Stars" app, and have for ages, It is so handy when rating tracks. I have even tweaked it so that I can rate with keyboard shortcuts.

I'd have included "Get Lyrical" which adds the lyrics to the ID3 tags...

It’s old and an update is in he works, but GimmeSomeTune is great — does all the above plus album art, menubar controller etc and all fully customisable.
I rely heavily on Doug’s Applescripts website. Tons of power-user stuff there.

I’ve switched to Cover Sutra now, available from the Mac App Store. Best iTunes utility there is.

Did you ever come across an application called "Clutter"? You could cover your desktop with album sleeves, and play them through iTunes.

Yeah, I do recall something like that. However, the thought of filling my desktop with anything fills my with horror. Mostly I use iTunes plus the control keys on the Apple keyboard. Cover Sutra juts gives me quick visual reference when iTunes is in the background and, as mentioned, lets me rate songs with keystrokes.

I have to say that my desktop is very clear. Otherwise it will slow the machine down. I use Hazel to clear the destop automatically.
I use I love stars to rate songs. Create your own keystrokes to change the ratings via the keyboard.

F.U.D. Utter nonsense. Next you’ll be telling me I need to manually run periodic scripts and only install Combo system updates.

I was going to include that, but to be fair it is worth doing from time to time.
