Hi

I'd really like some input and help with backing up the mac server. I inherited retrospect and before the moved office last week we discovered it wasn't covering all the shares etc so I have got to set up the back ups again from scratch.

The RAID is running off a Powermac G5 and I have 2 x G4s and an external drive. I have already informed finance I may have to by another external but they are cheap enough to get these days.

Before I spend hours trying to create new sets in restrospect does anyone know of any reasonably priced & reliable backing up software for macs? The server guys at Discovery are supposed to be looking after the server but because it's mac I keep hitting a brick wall (they say it's my job, my boss tells them it's their job etc etc)

Any ideas or help MUCH appreciated.

Thanks

C

I'd use online backup myself (as I do already)

How much data?

Online backup? That's nuts!!

I wouldn't want my corporate information in the hands of a third party, particularly a web based backup service - what if they have a security breach.

It's about 1.5TB. The company won't allow back ups online I'm sure.

Fully encrypted data backups are fine. Nice easy & safe (they also follow the insurance rules about keeping data offsite).

1.5tb might be a tad expensive though.

If you've got windows server with a backup already (prob backup exec) then you can run the mac remote agent to do it.
That way it's not your problem anymore mac remote agent plugin

That's exactly what I wanted to hear :)

I'll find out if that's what we use and see what they can do.

Most proper backup solutions have a remote mac agent so you should be fine.
