Can anyone confirm if manually installing drivers in Snow leopard is as simple as copying the relevant files to the locations in the installer.
I've got a bit of hardware that doesn't recognise the new Intel Processors in my MBP as Intel so won't run the installer.
I examined the package and it this is what it lists in the preflight commands
/Volumes/DisplayLink\ Installer/DisplayLink\ Software\ Installer.pkg/Contents/Resources/preflight ; exit; DisplayLinkDriver preflight script running... /System/Library/Extensions/DisplayLinkDriver.kext not found, skipping. /System/Library/Extensions/DisplayLinkNullDriver.kext not found, skipping. /System/Library/Extensions/DisplayLinkGA.plugin not found, skipping. /System/Library/Extensions/DisplayLinkGA_10.6.plugin not found, skipping. /Library/StartupItems/DisplayLinkAgent not found, skipping. /Library/LaunchAgents/com.displaylink.launchd.plist not found, skipping. /Library/LaunchAgents/com.displaylink.useragent.plist not found, skipping. /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.displaylink.launchd.plist not found, skipping. /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.displaylink.usbnivolistener.plist not found, skipping. /Applications/DisplayLink/DisplayLink Software Uninstaller.app not found, skipping. /Library/Application Support/DisplayLink not found, skipping. DisplayLinkDriver preflight script done. logout
In theory if I copy those items to the right places it should work (it does with Windows) but as I've never had to do it on the mac I thought I'd be sure

Ohh, be very careful about replacing anything in the main "Library" folders, especially .kext files in the "Extensions" folder - these could potentially lead to instability problems (Kernel Panics) if they clash with the system ones.
What's the piece of hardware in question - I assume some kind of display?
What I would do is use the Finder colour labels to at least mark anything in those folders that you've added so that it's easy to identify them and remove them if a problem arises afterwards. For example, after you've copied the files, right-click on them and select the Red colour label, then you can see at a glance the additional items you've added.
I would also change the file's permissions so that "everyone" has Read & Write access to these files too - select them, do a "Get Info" and look under "Sharing & Permissions" section.

A quick Google suggests this is what your hardware is... http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.php...Yes? If so, notice that the latest version of the drivers (1.6) are still in BETA, released on 7th April - what version are you trying to install via the installer?

Same sort of thing. I was searching for the bloody kworld drivers, didn't think about looking for the chip drivers.
Your google-fu is better than mine
Time to give it a try
