Anyone tried to migrate a TimeMachine volume to a larger one using SuperDuper?
I shall shortly be in receipt of a shiny new Samsung 2TB Ecogreen hard drive that I intend to use for my TM backups and I'd like to migrate the backups from the existing drive across so it can carry on without interruption. Some disc juggling is required as I intend to use the old TM drive as my new system drive as it's bigger than my rapidly filling up system drive.

No but Dave Nanian would know. Pose the question on the Superduper forum or email shirtpocket direct, they're very good like that.

I'd have thought a copy and paste might do the trick. Or if you go onto the command line and do:
Code:
cd /Volumes/OLD_DRIVE/path/to/backup/folder
cp -a backupFolder /Volumes/NEW_DRIVE/desired/path

That should do the trick I'd have thought...

Just a wee update.

Migration is complete. I don't think I've had my Mac on for so long continuously.
It took SuperDuper over 5 hours to migrate the existing TM backup onto the new disk (over the internal SATA connection). It would appear that all the linked files cause some serious slow downs. Plus TM wanted to do a complete new backup once I had everything back together (although I suspect that's because the new system disk is a new disk).

Still, I should have plenty of space for the old photos and things to go for some considerable time, with the added advantage that the new drives are virtually silent compared to the original WD drive that came with the Mac.
