It's on the press release for Lion 'going live', which I don't have the URL for to hand either  . Will be available from early next month on a USB stick from Apple shops. US price is $69, which is quite a lot more than the download. Can't find a UK version of the press release, but that'd translate to something over 40 quid at current apple prices. Jon

I have every iteration of Mac OS X on disc.
I'm thinking I really don't need to keep <10.5.

Might have a look at making a boot disk at the weekend. The girls Macs need upgrading as well.

I used the disc method for installing, it just upgraded my machine, and so far I'm impressed with the process....

Just downloading Lion for the second time. Will try and burn a disk this time. I didn't read the instructions until after the first machine was updated and the installer deletes the package behind it, which is annoying!

you do the download of lion but cant burn it to disc directly, unless

where are the DVDs that can be purchased, used and installed
or
buy any new mac with lion DVDs included

Click on the "Restore" tab, choose the InstallESD.dmg file as the source and your flash drive as the destination. Hit the Apply button and it will create your bootable USB drive.

its not a matter of i can do its a matter of the offerings ... i used Linux on 3 home systems for several years before moving to osx its not a matter of ability its a matter of choice i don't need or want an app account nor an itunes account i just want the discs available, is that so hard for apple to understand the discs are available if you buy a new mac (they come with the system) ...

Did you buy any of your Linux distros on DVD then?
From a shop?
Or were they downloaded and burnt to a DVD?
Apple seem to be moving away from boxed software on their shelves, in the stores. And there's all sorts of good reasons to do so.
As the Linux world will attest, I'm certain, you don't need a fancy box and packaging with your software.

all linux downloads are .iso files which are designed to be burnt to disc or run from the HDD under VB does apple offer this option ? ...
