Post subject:  Windows 7 password issue

Hi,

A mate of mine, (who lives several hundred miles away) has forgotten his Windows 7 password... He can log on with another account, but can't access his files, (the account with the forgotten password is an admin account, the one he can log on with is a standard user)

He doesn't have any system/recovery discs, (or doesn't know where they are) and doesn't currently have internet access, (just moved house)

I'm thinking the easiest way, (aside from sending him to PC World!) is to send a password recovery CD through the post, but before I suggest that, has anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks

:D

Other than sending him a TRK CD, I don't know what you can do.

It'd obviously be quicker to download it and burn it himself (website), if he knows anyone in the vacinity.

I'll give him a ring later and ask if he knows anyone else locally who has internet access, (As I said in the OP, he's just moved, so I don't know if he knows anybody local yet).

Let's just hope he can deal with the linuxy recovery stuff!

Thanks. :D

IIRC, there was a pretty decent FAQ on the site, including instructions on windoze pass recovery. You could always talk him through it. :D ;)

Can't he just start the machine in "Safe Mode" and log in as admin?

I thought that feature was removed from Vista onwards?

The administrator account is disabled by default, but he's going to try and download the TRK CD mentioned earlier, and phone me later... I'll talk him through the procedure.
