Just how good is the service? I keep hearing critiscism on podcasts about it, even Mac podcasts. So, how good is it? I use Outlook 2007 on Windows Vista at home, Mail, Calendar and Address Book (or whatever it is called) on the Mac, my Handy is a Windows Mobile device and fully synched with Outlook, so that isn't a problem, but trying to keep Outlook and the iMac synched is a pain... And I'm thinking of getting an iPhone, another year's contract on O2, so would be excessive to now take out a new contract on T-Mobile... So, how good and reliable is MobileMe in the mail and contact etc. synchnronisation process? What are MobileMe's problems, if they aren't related to the synching? |

But dave, you keep reminding everyone how great your current phone is compared to the iPhone. Why on earth would you want to downgrade? ![]() As for the MobileMe, you could sign up for a trial?? |

I use MobileMe. It's alright. The email works, all the invisible backing up to "the cloud" works. The integration with the iLife stuff works. My main peeve is how to access the web pages when I want to share something, and much-vaunted file sharing is currently broken for some reason. But I'm happy with the way it works. I don't plan on owning one of them iPhone thingies, though. Way too expensive. |

The 'phone I have did a lot of things the iPhone didn't. With the 3GS and iPhone 3.0, the iPhone has caught up with most of the features I need/use. I always like the concepts of the iPhone, I just found the lack of certain features, which I used a lot, to be a killer for me. The only questionmark still hanging over the 'phone is the non-multitasking nature. I like that I can flick between calendar and addressbook on my 'phone without having to quit one and load the other, I don't even need to go over the home screen. But I don't think it will be that much of an annoyance... I might give the trial a go. The problem last time was that you need a credit card for the free trial... ![]()
That's good to know Heather. Thanks for that. |

Since the headaches when MobileMe was launched, I've never had any issues. It really is a case of it "just working" so much that I don't think about it now. And the Find my iPhone feature is meant to be the dangly bits according to reports I've read. Don't forget, however, that there's still no "secret texting" (or emergency pizza) facilities for the iPhone. |

The emergency pizza option was Gareth's must have feature and he was annoyed when Apple made him look like a fool in an update, when they removed it. ![]() |

You're not the only one who hasn't received the notification, so I don't think it's just operator error. ![]() |

I know - I was just pointing out (with tongue in cheek) two of the sillier must-have "features" that people have said the iPhone is lacking. |

I signed up for the trial the other day. Works well as push email on the iphone. + the find my iphone feature was great. |

So, signed up for the test, but it doesn't seem to be able to synch e-mail ![]() I have a couple of thousand e-mails distributed between Windows (Outlook) and my iMac. On the Mac, I checked the synch e-mail accounts, but it only synched the welcome message from .me, my existing mails weren't synched. On Windows, I can only seem to synch contacts and calendars, but not e-mail. As my primary problem was keeping the e-mails between the machines synchronised, it looks like MobileMe isn't what I'm looking for. ![]() Am I missing something?
If it can't synch e-mail with Outlook (or other e-mail clients on Windows), how the flogging hell can it keep my e-mail in synch? |

I have a feeling it's only emails sent/received via the mac.com address. I don't think it'll sync anything else - at least for the umpteen addies I have, it only syncs mac.com traffic. So, on that score, I doubt this service is what you need, sadly. ![]() |

Hmm, apart from setting up my only, local, IMAP server for storing the history, is there any service which will synch the mail accounts between different machines? I used to run a separate mail server, but I don't have it any more, since giving up my business... |

Perhaps not the best thing, but what about rules in Outlook/Mail which copied incoming mail to a .Mac account, which would then be sync'd with MobileMe... Not especially elegant, but it should work... |
