I am logged on a server as the Administrator and need to go into Control Panel, Network Connections Folder to change the network adapter settings however whilst I can get into Control Panel ok when I try to then go into Network Connections Folder it says "You do not have permission" :x

I've then tried as another user who has full admin rights and again same result.

I though about logging on the machine as the local administrator however the machine was installed before I joined the company and so no one knows/remembers what that password would have been - I've tried several possibles but no luck.

Is it possible this might have been set-up under a GP rule on that machine? I've had a nose around but can't find anything.

Failing that, anyone got any ideas how I can proceed?

Is it just a file server or a DC?

Can you run a gpresult on it to see what policy it's got on it?

You could use hirens boot disk to reset the local admin password
