I am currently installing a MacBook for my gf's younger brother and he has a genuine Apple power supply, new, but the MacBook keeps saying the PSU is not connected, even though it is (and the little LED on the power supply doesn't light up). Removing the Magsafe connector and reseating it solves the problem.
The eldest daughter has a 2009 13" MacBook Pro and she says that it does exactly the same. Is this a known problem with the power supply bricks?

I'm not aware of any major issues. We have three units in this house and they've not shown any problems. Check for any rubbish in the socket. It's where the magnet is, and it may have attracted some odd bits and pieces that prevent proper seating of the plug - potential fire risks ahoy!

Thanks Heather, but it is funny, that 2 different models (similar age 2008/2009) both have the same problem and the power supply on the MacBook is brand new.
Edit: The problem seems to occur once the MB is plugged in, then sent to sleep or turned off, on restarting, the it doesn't recognize the power supply, and the LED goes out.

A tad obscure, nevertheless... if may be worthwhile trashing the power management prefs and then rebooting: MacHD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ com.apple.PowerManagement.plist

I reset the SMC, as per Fog's link, the problem hasn't reocurred yet.

If you could stand on the M3 where it crosses Tomb Street, I may well have finally found a use for my 241.170 mile long quill.
