Afternoon, Some of you may know that I got a laptop to get me by with. It's not got the best of specs (them being a 266mhz Pentium 2, 128mb of RAM and a 10gb HDD), but it'll do till I get a decent one. Anyway, I need a decent MSN client that isn't going to eat up all the RAM and resources. (BTW it's running XP simply because of its brilliant WiFi compatibility). I'm using Windows Messenger at the moment, and I must say it sucks. It will run Windows LIVE Messenger, but it's very very slow, and I can't have anything BUT MSN open. Thanks!

Thanks Ben, tried that before. Just thrashed at the HDD until the laptop seemingly couldn't take any more, when it crashed. I'm thinking of reformatting and installing an older distro of Ubuntu (talking like Breezy Badger or something) or installing DSL. Cheers!

Crap. Took over 9000 minutes to load, and even then it was unusable. Running Tuneup Utilities '09 (crack'd to Pro of course. ) in order to access it's brilliant Defragmenter, and to stop some unneeded services.

Bally, is that even the MSN client that's pre-installed on XP? You know, the really crap looking one?

Couldn't you up the RAM in the lappy? How much does a 256mb stick of the stuff your runing cost off ebay?
But yar....I was going to say amsn aswell.

I think it already has the max it supports in it. Its a Pentium 2 laptop, so it'll have something like EDO SDRAM in it or something. EDIT: It can hold 256mb of RAM, but I doubt it would make much difference really. 266mhz is holding it back.

I would, just to laugh though.... Here's something that may help. Here, yeah, it's ridiculously basic, but we use it at college 'cause they've blocked MSN...

Thought it would, we had it had it running on the college labs systems, I swear there's a few Pentium something machines in there, 64mb RAM anyone?
