Apropos of the Lion boot disc conversation, Apple has now released "Lion Recovery Disk Assistant", which lets you clone the recovery partition that Lion creates to an external drive so you can still boot the machine, install Lion, run Disk Utility / Time Machine / Safari even if the internal drive is fried.
