Having odd issues with my USB. Keyboard and mouse work fine. Stuck my iPhone in the front usb port and it works fine, in fact, just updated the software using it. However, a memory stick that works fine in other machines won't work in the same port. Also, my USB bluetooth stick has suddenly become unavailable. It's recognised in system profiler, but it says that bluetooth is off and the option to turn it on is greyed out. Anyone got any ideas? |

Do you have a powered hub you can try them on? It sounds like a power problem - not enough juice available for certain devices. |

I was going to add that some also need more power than the USB hub can provide. It might be affected by what else is draining power ie keyboard. |

Bluetooth is on a hub and is the only thing on it. The memory card was plugged into the front port. I think it's a software thing as it's only happened since installing leopard. |

It's not just hubs that can be low on power. It's particularly common for laptops, and not unheard of for desktops to lose the ability to supply the full current needed by some peripherals. This is why I suggested using a powered hub to eliminate power supply hardware as the cause. Note that the power is regulated by software, so could potentially have been effected by the upgrade. USB provides 100mA at connection, and then 500mA on demand provided it's available and the drivers are working. |

How big is the USB stick? I've had problems with some older Acer computers (2008/9), where they would not recognise certain brands and sizes of USB sticks. |

It's a g5 dual 2.5. The stick is 1gb. It always used to work in it! |

Bit late to the party, but what I would have said is that I often find a restart cures USB hiccoughs. Also just swapping ports around seems to have the effect of “waking” USB ports that appear to have nodded off. |

Cheers Simon, I did try a restart, but it seemed it needed to be switched off for the whole weekend rather than just a few seconds! I think it's getting tired and telling me to get that mac pro I've been banging on about for two years... |

That’s exactly what it’s saying. |
