I'm planning on creating some training video guides for users on a couple of systems we use, I need something to capture the screen and record a voice over. Googling comes up with plenty, but does anyone have good recommendations to create short(ish) training videos/walkthroughs? Final files probably will be on a local network, but it'd be nice to have the option of resizing for the web. |

Quicktime X in Snow Leopard/Lion will do screen capture for you. It's not bad either. I'm not 100% how good it would be for the web, but I want to say there is a 'web' option to record with. |

Thanks, I'd love to do it on the Mac, but this is for a Windows only software, I guess I could remote desktop into it though, but a native Windows prog would be ideal! |

We use Adobe Captivate at work. It is pretty good, altough you have to think about the target resolution when filming, rescaling can look awful, but I think that is probably true of all screen capture software. |

If possible, you want a 1:1 pixel correlation in the final product. I usually screen-grab the entire screen at 100% resolution, and then use VirtualDub to crop down to the final size as well as edit and add sound. By paying attention to those parts of the screen you really need to see, you can often crop down to VGA which is more manageable as a video. Alternatively, you can simply set your screen resolution to a lower level before you start recording, or if you're only interested in one window then just record that. Took me a while to find the one I used to use because they've abreviated it's name!: http://www.bsrsoft.com/downloadbsr.asp I'll post a link to an example once I've posted. |

Slightly off topic but I've used webex several times recently included recording and download options. its very good. I've run training sessions using it and then made the recordings available on the Intranet. |

http://www.hanselman.com/blog/TheGuideT ... casts.aspx Good overview of what to do, reducint screen resolution is one of the big ones to allow users watching it to do so with adequate detail at a lower resolution video |
