Hi,
I am trying to install some software, but it requires XP SP3. Unfortunately this won't install for some reason. It goes through the motions but then updates not installed....

can anyone offer any thoughts/suggestions on this please.

Does it give a reason as to why it won't install?

Have you tried disabling third-party security software?

please try disabling the page/swap file
restart then reenable the swap file and reset it
restart

now try the XP SP3 update ...

You might be better off re-installing Windows and then installing all the updates & service packs before restoring any third-party software.

How are you doing it? It's probably best to let Windows Update do it's thing rather than actually downloading the service pack.

Quote:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Depending on which Control Panel view you use, Classic or Category, do one of the following:
Click System, and then click the Automatic Updates tab.
Click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click the Automatic Updates tab.
Click the option that you want. Make sure Automatic Updates is not turned off.

Then wait, and reboot when told. Probably several times!

Have you tried to download SP3 from microsoft and then install from that file rather than the auto update
