Anyone else having sporadic issues with Safari (5.1) saying websites don't exist?

Generally speaking if it says the website doesn't exist that a DNS lookup failure of some sort. If it's having problems connecting it says something like the website isn't responding. Is it usually the case that if you hit reload the site comes up?

No. It still says the site doesn't exist. If I leave it for a bit it usually comes back. I can connect to the websites using my mobile over my wireless connection so I don't think it's a DNS issue as the Mac and the phone are going through the same router.

could be DNS prefetching try this

to stop safari prefetching use this command in the terminal ...

defaults write

com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
press enter

restart or open safari ...
