Hi Not sure what's going wrong on my machine, but whenever I'm drawing clipping paths in Photoshop, it becomes really, really laggy? It'll just hang between drawing points, giving me the spinning beachball of death.... meaning a clipping path that would normally take a couple of minutes, now takes 10 mins plus.... not good!! I had thought it was a font/Suitcase issue - when I quit out of all apps running it *seemed* fine, and it was laggy when I opened Suitcase again. So I quit that and opened iTunes. Then it was laggy again.... so it seems Photoshop just likes it's own company?! Had anyone else had this issue or know of anything I could try to get it up to speed and not have to have all other apps closed?! Thanks! Ben (Oh yeah, I'm on 10.6.8, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, 4gb RAM - so that should be enough to cope, especially when my older macbook at home copes with the same software!?) |

What version of Photoshop is it? If it's CS 3 or earlier, doesn't that use Rosetta emulation - could be related to that? Have you tried trashing Photoshop's preferences, here... Home > Library > Preferences > Within the "Preferences" folder, there are a few files and folders to trash... Adobe (folder) Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings (folder) Adobe Photoshop CS2 Paths (file) com.adobe.Photoshop.plist (preference file) (Note: you'll see from the above, I'm using CS2, obviously the names of your items will reflect the version you're running!) Move all these files/folders out of the "Preferences" folder, new ones will be recreated next time you launch Photoshop again. You'll need to set up Photoshops settings to how you like them by selecting "Preferences" under the File menu - also not forgetting the Colour Settings too (under the Edit menu). Also, check what percentage of free RAM Photoshop is grabbing in the preferences ("Memory & Image Cache" section), think the default is about 75%. Also worth checking your RAM isn't faulty by running the Apple Hardware Tests (on your original System Install DVD) - just cos it shows up as 4Gb RAM, doesn't mean it's not faulty in some way. If you work on large images in Photoshop, it's surprising just how much RAM it can gobble up - I'd say 8Gb is a good amount for power-users. And make sure you have plenty of free hard drive space for Photoshop's scratch disk and system virtual memory. |

I’m using CS3 in Lion, which does not support Rosetta. |

Sorry - I guess that would be helpful! I'm on CS5.... I'm just downloading the updater, to see if that makes any kind of difference... I'll give binning the prefs a whirl though if that makes no difference. I've increased the memory allowance already, didn't seem to make a lot of odds... It's only happening with paths though... all other tasks seem fine?! |

Hardware test might be an idea.... I"m not experiencing issues anywhere other than PS though... it's very infuriating! |

Right, after the update and trashing those Prefs it seems so far to be running much smoother (touches large piece of wood...) So thank you for suggesting those - lets hope it's solved it! Cheers, Ben |
