The home button on my iphone has gone kaput, it is swimming with the fishes, deceased.
This has left me with a problem lol Using the iPhone without the home button is quiet tedious and I know I will be probably upgrading in the near future but does anyone know how much a repair is? Do I have to go through O2 or can I roll up to an Apple store?

How old is it?

You can go along to an Apple store. O2 will just send it to Apple anyway.

If it's within warranty they might be able to do a while-u-wait jobby.

Book a genius appointment before you go though.

I don't know if your iPhone is suffering from the same affliction as my iPod touch when its home button died, but I resurrected it by dipping a cotton bud in clear alcohol - the tips I saw online suggested pure alcohol, I just used some vodka we had in the kitchen - and ran the cotton bud round the edge of the home button a few times. Not enough to soak it, but enough to get a little alcohol in there to clear away any gunk that was causing the button to lose contact.

Worked a treat for me - although I make no claims for anyone else. YMMV, buyer beware, force majeure etc.

I might try that at work tomorrow, plenty of pure alcohol and any other solvent I can wish for

Tried a bit of methanol and it appears to be fully functional!
Cheers for the tip Jason :D
