OSX nub here. :)

As some of you may now, I recently got an old B+W PowerMac. However, I have a few questions on it

Is it possible to update it to 10.4? It currently has 10.3.9 on it, and most programs I want to use (Firefox, msn etc) require 10.4.

How do I do things like I do in windows eg. Ctrl+A to select all, tab to move between things (like username to password box etc) and copy paste?

Thanks a lot!

Your Mac is, I think, inside the specs for 10.4 (Tiger). You'd need to buy a retail Tiger disc, probably second hand these days. Try eBay.

For most PC-key presses, CTRL is replaced with 'Command' - the splat key next to the space bar. A lot of the usual things are the same - Ctrl-A = Cmd-A.
You should be able to tab between fields as usual. Cmd+Tab should switch apps in a familiar way as well.

You might find this helpful too (but probably 10.5 specific in some areas) - http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/

Thanks again Alex, really helpful. :)

I'll try and see if my friend (who is a fully blown Mac anorak :)) has a 10.4 disc. I'll overclock it later on, and post the results of it.

Cheers!

Welcome to Macs :-)

OK - some info from Apple on Tiger:
http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/ (A lot of the links seem to be dead)

10.4 system specs indicate that you’ll be able to run Tiger. Install and enjoy!
