Is there any way I can gift 10.7 Lion to someone?
I thought I could just do this, but I don't see how. I need to get it done today. *sigh*

There's no virtual gift card outside the US either. I think I'm going to have to buy a physical gift card so they can purchase the gift.
Apple, you have failed me.

"Gifting"? ! ? !

What's wrong with the word "giving"? Or even "giving a present"?

Also: this forum does not like the Interrobang.

I was using the word Apple uses.

If you can do it, the way to do it is to go to the page for Lion in the Mac OS app store and there there's a small blue button with the price on. Click the small 'down arrow' also on the button. If that has the 'give as a gift' option that will do what you wish - it sends them an iTunes link in an email that allows them to download it IIRC. Note you need to have a registered CC for this to be available, I can't actually check it as I don't have one on my iTunes account any more.

Alternatively go to any supermarket and buy them a £25 iTunes gift card, they're good for App Store purchases too.

You only get two options; to e-mail a friend and to purchase it yourself.

It's too late now. Apple lost a sale tonight.

If it's too late, it's too late, but can't an email gift certificate from the iTunes Store be redeemed in the App Store?

I don't see why not - it's an 'Apple ID' account with a balance on it, so adding funds in iTunes applies to the app store too. They'll need to use the same login on both though.

I've been in Germany too long! I read "Poisoning 10.7"

(German "Gift" = English "Poison".)

That could be socially awkward if you aren't careful...

I read it as "Poisoning 101", as though it were a personal development course.

You should have seen a German friend's face, when I first met her kids, I had got them a Teddybear and a dog from the Bear Factory in Southampton and I blurted out "I have gifts for your kids"

Which reminds me of an episode of Playaway (with Brian Cant and Cloe Ashcroft) where they were somewhere in Europe with a similar kid’s show from that country. Brian had a gift and presented it as such. The Gift/poison confusion was explained with the kind of mirth that Playaway brought to such things.
