I wasn't sure whether to put this in the PC hardware forum or the AV section, but here's the problem.

I've just finished building PCTV MKII, and can now view Blu-Rays through the TV in stunning 1080p quality, but the surround sound is giving me problems... I think I know what the problem is but...

I re-used my old Audigy SB1394 sound card and all of the outputs work. The speakers that they are connected to are that ones that came with the old DVD player, and they are all passive.

I have tried googling it but I can't find any information on whether the output needs to go through an amp' or not...

Any ideas, before I go out and start throwing money that I haven't got at this problem?

Thanks.

:)

Thinking about it, I suppose I could always go out and buy a set of Creative surround speakers... that should fix it, shouldn't it?

You'll need an amp if you reuse the old speakers or you could buy new speakers to use.

Thanks Simon, that's what I'd figured. I went out and bought a set of Creative A520s. Sounds good, but I'll need extensions for the rear speakers.

Oh well, problem solved! :D
