I host a lot of domain names for various small customers at 123-reg, also I have a several with dedicated web hosting with 123-reg them. Over the past year or so, the speed of the sites has really slowed, I sometimes get timeouts when FTPing files, often site times out when loading in Firefox, it's annoying and I suspect 123 hosting more and more on each box to save money.

The package I have are the Linux Business hosting (http://www.123-reg.co.uk/web-hosting/co ... page.shtml) which is just under £60 + VAT per year. Considering the speed this isn't value for money at all, we used to pay £20 or £30 / year, then they offered a free upgrade, which the next year you are forced to pay for as you can't downgrade your hosting package, without cancelling and setting up again, not good for customers who need a constant website.

(Don't want to touch 1&1, had massive problems with their hosting and service in the past.)

At the moment these are just static websites, HTML/XHTML with some Flash and password areas for document downloads / customer access, we may well switch to a CMS like Drupal this year if time allows.

Any recommendations?

That is pretty good value when you look at most of the other hosting options...

Have you looked at Blacknight.com?
http://www.blacknight.com/

We use them for domains (host our own work) and the service has been very good and the cost is quite reasonable

Hmmm you see I don't think it is, we don't use any of the package options, it's just essentially space with domains mapped onto.

FTP is unreliable, sites hosted are slow and occasionally time out - so I'm not sure at any price that is good value!

Will have a look at Blacknight.com
Thought they'd be loads of recommendations!

I haven't found anyone I could recommend without reservations...

There's a company I use, based in Yorkshire.

Very good deals, plenty of extras on tap. I've shifted all my hosting to them.

This is my problem, I've tried many in the past, had some horrendous issues. 123 is great for basic domain holding, but their hosting leaves a lot to be desired.

Ahh thanks Heather, I did noticed they cropped up on a couple of different threads, so I'll drop them an e-mail

Thanks :)
