I'm trying to find some messenger software that will allow me to run tabbed conversations and to minimise the main client window to the system tray, without completely ballsing up file transfers (Pidgin in particular is bad for this). Anyone got any suggestions?

I use Trillian, which is cross-platform and handles most of the popular IM systems.
