Post subject: | SATA1 controller not compatible with SATA2? |
Hi all, I'm looking at buying something like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48965 for various reasons, it says in the FAQ that it wouldn't work with SATA2 drives, but by my understanding, they should work, just transfer data at a lower rate? Or is the protocol/wiring different? Cheers, Ben |

Cheers David, I thought so...I might try and buy one and ask, if they are not sure I'll ask if I can bring it back. |

You may need to use a jumper with the SATA2 drive to force it into SATA1..depends on the motherboard usually. Some new drives don't use physical jumpers, so it has to be set by the bundled software (and if it isn't bundled, it needs to be downloaded) |
