I have an unusual question... The demo music in Garageband, is that licence free? Can you use it in other creations?

I couldn't find anything quickly on the licence for Garagageband.

We are looking at replacing the standard Ein kleine Nachtmusik "on hold" music on our telephone exchange and our marketing person has looped it with a message spoken over the top. Is that allowed? I am googling at the moment, but haven't found a definitive answer yet.

Never mind...

From website above:

"The GarageBand software license agreement says:

GarageBand Software. You may use the Apple and third party audio loop content (Audio Content), contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original music compositions or audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own music compositions or audio projects that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual audio loops may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound effects or music beds."

So... is that a "Yes" then? Why aren't these things written in plain English, and what the [LIFTED] is a "music bed"?

Because they're written by lawyers :).

I could be wrong, but I think it's the term for music that gets played under something like the weather report or travel news on a radio show..

Well, you live and learn. Never heard that one before!
Dave, you could try someone like iStockPhoto - they also offer reasonably priced audio clips/loops now.

As long as you make a song using them (i.e. Stick a couple of samples on top of each other) then it will be fine.
The restrictions only apply to using individual samples on their own.
