Well I was planning on keeping my HTC Desire for another year or so and going SIM only when my contract runs out in April. Now I've just found out about the HTC One X (due out in April).
My decision just got a whole lot harder.

Hmm.. how is ICS at sleeping cores when they're not being used? If it's running all four all the time, the battery life is going to be a bit of a problem. I've got a PS Vita, which uses pretty much the same internals and a screen that's more or less the same size and the rate it uses up power is pretty fearsome, and that's got a 2200mAh battery...

I like the idea of more cores in general but they need good management on mobile devices. It's all very well throwing more and more horsepower at desktops, they have effectively infinite power reserves. But if power requirements outruns battery tech in phones we're going to end up with actually less useful devices. This is is kind of already true in the US, where they're trying hard to sell people on LTE devices despite the fact none of them can last a working day without recharging. IMO, phone manufacturers (all of them) need to slow down a bit on the 'more cores bigger screens faster data' arms race and plough some more money into battery research.

I think it looks better in black, btw.

One Extension - it's a collection of apps and services to take your desk phone anywhere there is Internet or a phone line. I have it installed on my Android phone, and it's available on most other platforms. Check your favourite store.

The HTC One X get sa bit of air time on this week's Click. TBH, to me it looks like every over HTC phone, just now it really is ludicrously big.

That's one of two things putting me off.
1) I want the high res screen, but not one that's quite that big
2) The colour - every photo I've seen so far has it in white. I don't like white phones.

I think I'll probably wait another year and see what's out then. I just really like HTC's Sense so I was hoping to stick to one of their phones.
Shame they just can't take my HTC Desire, up the screen resolution and give it more onboard storage. That would be perfect.

I don't like the look of it TBH. But then maybe that's because I've fallen in love with the form factor of the Nokia Lumia 800.

The processor is actually a 5 core one. It uses 4 cores when needed, dropping back to a lower clocked core for tasks that don't need the 4 cores. That means when reading web pages, watching video or listening to music, the 4 main cores will be in sleep mode, with the slower core doing the donkey work.

If I were going to upgrade my HTC HD2 I'd still rather go for the Samsung Galaxy Note, with it 5.3" Super AMOLED screen, as opposed to the 4.7" display on the HTC One X.

Why? Because I want to read PDF files. Simples.

I totally agree

The irony here of course being that the two biggest fans of the Lumia are the two Linux fans.

I can usually read them OK on my HD2, but I'm looking at a lot of photography books, and having to zoom in to read the text, and back out to see the diagrams/photos is a pain in the... neck.

Yeah, but I'd really like the 32GB of storage.
