Post subject: | Single group email address in Exchange |
Hi all, When I was working for Sun we had a single email address (something like labstaff@sun.com) which got delivered to everyone in the group. It wasn't delivered with "Fwd:" in the subject, nor was the sender replaced with the server that forwarded it. To the receiver it looks like the email has been sent directly to them apart from the "To" field being the group email address. Can this be done in MS Exchange and if so how? I know that my current company uses that (no idea about the version), and that feature would be great for the next phase of the project. Many thanks, Ben |

Yes, presuming it's relatively up to date version of Exchange. You create an AD security group and then add an email address to it (a process called 'mail enabling', google that for the procedure), then add the people you want to receive the messages into the group. Then they will all receive any email that gets sent to the group's address. You can do this a few other ways too, but this one has the advantage that you can devolve management of the group membership to someone who actually cares ![]() |

I can remember the hoops I had to go through to get the IT dept. to add or remove people from email groups. This would have been much easier, if they had dared to relinquish control that is. |

It's just a standard distribution list. You only use security groups if you want to also use the group for access to folders etc and other permissions. |

+1 Security groups are for security purposes, mail distribution lists are for mail, you shouldn't mix the 2. |
