Post subject:  iPhone inline earphone controls messing up music

When I use the inline controls (i.e. the 3button earphone control thing) to pause and resume music it sometimes messes up the music.

It will skip (i.e. play a 0.1ish second long part over and over so it sounds stuck) and it will stop and start or slow down etc...

This is something that happens with any earphones. I've tried my original Apple earphones, someone else's earphones, my new earphones, etc...

I can't find anything on the t'interwebs as it's hard to search without finding millions of irrelevant results.

Does anyone else experience this?

Oh, also, it doesn't always happen. Maybe 1:3 ratio of it not working to working.

Just submitted this bug report...

I wrote:
Hi,

This is a problem I have had since first getting the phone.

iPhone 4 - s/n ************ - Currently on iOS 5.1 - 5GB avail space.

I listen to a lot of music on it and it generally works fine but when I use the inline remote to pause/resume (while the phone is locked with the screen off) the music starts to skip and stutter (like a scratched CD). This happens about 1 in 3 or 4 times.

I then try to pause/resume the music from the lock screen controls but this doesn't get rid of the skipping.

The only way to stop the skipping is to unlock the phone, go into the Music app and pause/resume the music from there. This then plays the music fine.

When skipping/stuttering the music will do several things.
1. stop for just under a second and start again (repeatedly).
2. seem to repeat the same 0.05 seconds sevearl times while slowly moving forwards in the track.
3. suddenly move to a different part of the track (only by a second or so).

If I were to try and diagnose it at all I would say that it sounds like two processes are trying to play the music at the same time and colliding with each other.

I have tried restoring the phone with no effect. No OS updates have fixed it either.

This happens with my original Apple earphones that came with the phone. I have also tried other people's Apple earphones. I just bought some new earphones and the same is happening with these too so it is definitely something up with the phone.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
