Afternoon all,

Yesterday I received a Blackberry Bold 9790 for work use, and I'm not getting along too well...
Most of my problems are to do with the form factor and the cluncky interface, neither of what I can change, however there are some other things which I might be able to do something about...

At the moment the mail application is doing my head in. I click on mail and I get a view of the mail activity, both sent and received mail. How can I make the mail application show me just my inbox when I start it? Having to find the "View folder" option all the time is getting tedious now...

Thanks very much,
Ben

Morning all,

Another question or two regarding emails:
I turn off the BlackBerry when I'm at home. I don't need or want it on. When I boot it up in the morning and get the flurry of emails come through, they are all dated with the time the BlackBerry received them, not the time the server received them, it also seems to receive them out of order so later parts of the email conversation appear before earlier ones...

Also, when I read/delete an email on the BlackBerry, it doesn't mark it as read/deleted on the server, and vice versa...How can I make it behave properly?

Many thanks,
Ben

That's because it's showing you the 'received' date of the final hop, which is between the server and you. It would work better if you could switch it to show the 'sent' timestamp of the email instead. Can't remember how to do that off the top of my head though.

Is this a work phone using BES do you know? If you dig around in the options in the email, you should see some options for 'email reconciliation'. It will most likely be set to 'handset only'. If you switch it to 'handset and desktop' it should keep things more in sync. Depends on the settings the server has imposed on the phone though, you may not have the option.

If not, and it's an 'internet' phone, you may have it downloading via POP and set not to delete the emails on the server when it does. With POP you don't really have the option to keep the two in sync, you'd be better setting it up as an IMAP account if you can.

Cheers Jon.

I don't know if the server is BES, only that there is some MS Exchange Server somewhere in the mix...There are certainly no IMAP/POP stuff going on...
I have changed email reconciliation to 'handset and desktop' and it seems to work for making items as read, but not deleted items, perhaps a server-side issue...?

If it's Exchange it's most likely BES.

There is a separate setting somewhere specifically for deleting, which sets whether delete on the phone just deletes on the phone or also deletes on the server. I don't have a BB handy so I can't find it for you but it is in there somewhere.

It could also be a server side setting to say phones don't delete from the server, which you won't be able to change.

Usually when you first delete an e-mail you get the options "on handset only" or "on handset and mailbox".

This might be useful to you:
