Post subject:  Getting Excel to ignore a letters in a sum?

Hi all, hope you can help

I have basic knowledge of Excel and use a spread sheet to organise and display results in the F1 league I run on th PS3 via RD forum.

currently I use "0" for any event apart from a score but would like to start recording and displaying the following - disqualifications (DSQ), Did not finish (DNF), Disconnect (DSC) and did not start (DNS)

When I try to enter the 3 letters I get an error in the Points column

Code is basic using SUM (example) =F3+G3+H3+I3+J3+K3+L3+M3+N3+O3+P3+Q3+R3+S3+T3+U3+V3+W3+X3

Any help would be appreciated

Rich

not sure if I'm understanding you correctly but surly =SUM(F3:X3) will do the job for you ? :?

Yes it does thank you, my line was way to basic by the sound of it. I'm learning slowly but as this is the only real thing I did with excel my knowledge is very limited.
