Hi all,

At work today, I was visited by the team IT guy, he's not in IT by choice, but he's kind of been shifted into it over time.
He asked me to sort out the cables in the ops room, there are two towers, hooked up to two regular monitors, and a 30 inch SMARTboard screen. The problem is, people want to plug their own things in (usb sticks, etc) and rather than using the ports on the front, pull out random leads from the back and complain that the system doesn't work.

My plan is to have a large box/cage or two individual enclosures with a mesh, padlocked door, wires can come out and a USB hub can be mounted on the top to allow USB access, any other ports will be extended and mounted on top.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Any experience with this kind of thing? I've not been given a budget, just :you look at what's out there, report back and we'll get it."

Cheers for any suggestions :D
Ben

In the office at work, there's a PC in what is effectively a a glass box, it's locked at the front, and there's a few holes in the back to the cables to come out of. Won't Staples do something similar? Or you could booby trap the USB ports, that drops a cattle prod on them if they touch them...

Staples are damn expensive though, a lot of stationery I get in Tesco instead as it's the same brand (e.g. Staedtler) but far cheaper.

I don't think they'll sell a cage for a PC though ;)

If only it were that simple, people pull out current USB devices, monitor connections, power leads...Anything they think isn't really required...Then complain why it doesn't work five minutes later...
