When is it? Without going to Google/Twitter and finding out, I'm pretty sure it's close.

Well shiver-mi-timbers. I've not that long to wait then.
Cheers, Peter.

I think the keynote starts at 5PM ish. So.. Apple or England? Argh! I don't think it's being webcast unfortunately.

if the rumours are going to all turn out to be true, every single product Apple make will get an upgrade. And Apple will announce several new products. It's going to be busy.

Because, obviously, you're going to announce a new Mac Mini to a roomful of developers.

Jon

It's a no-brainer for me. Sadly, I'll be at work, so I'll have to get my info whatever way possible.

No but I could figure out one that did :). I don't think them talking about Mountain Lion counts as a rumour. I think it's be a ruddy surprise if they didn't...

The slightly.. worrying one I've just seen is that a download link for iOS6 popped up temporarily on the Apple developer site and it said it wasn't compatible with the 1st gen iPad or any iPod touch other than the most recent one....

My first gen iPad is so slow that I wouldn't want to update it. It struggles as it is.

I'm surprised about the iPod touch though. The third gen iPod touch is the same as the iPhone 3GS which (reportedly) will be getting iOS6.

BTW the keynote starts at 6pm tonight.

Don't know what to do now! Do I stay at work and watch the live cast (not video) and tweet at the same time or do I go home and miss the whole thing live?!?

Think I'll probably stay at work :D

IIRC there's a podcast of them in iTunes too. That may be uploaded by tomorrow.

Hardware:
Update for the Air and Macbook pro - incremental mostly but they now get USB 3. All prices drop by roughly $100.

New model macbook with a 'retina display' - a 15.4" display with a res of 2800*1800. That's a 5 megapixel screen. They state it's 220 DPi. The new model is also thinner - closed it's the same height as the 'base' of the standard macbook pro. GT650M video. 750GB internal flash drive. 7 hours battery life. HDMI out. Dual thunderbolt ports. USB 3. 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0. 720p webcam.

That's a very nice laptop. $2200 (which is, what, £1600?) - a lot of money but a lot of laptop.

Also new thunderbolt adapters - one for Firewire 800 and one for Gigabit ethernet.

All the new laptops ship today.

Updates to all in house 'pro' apps to use the new display. I'd imagine Aperture is going to look pretty good on it :). The display will use pixel doubling (like the iPad with iPhone apps) for 'standard' mac os apps. It can also now launch apps if you ask it to.
One of the first 3rd party 'retina' mac apps? Diablo III....

Mountain Lion :
(I'm only going to mention new stuff here - they're demoing notification centre and the like but you already know them anyway..)
All of the 'ship with a mac' apps - all the inbuilt stuff plus iWorks - are being updated to support 'documents in the cloud' (finally, thinks I).
'Power Nap' - basically, you put your mac to sleep (or it goes to sleep of it's own accord) and, as long as it's got some level of power - either mains or decent battery left - it'll do all the stuff like download system/app updates or back itself up using time machine without coming out of sleep. This uses less juice than coming out of sleep, doing it all then going back to sleep apparently. Doesn't matter on a desktop mac, obviously.

Some say he prefers BeOS.. And that he knows his link libraries from his static overloads. All we know is... he's on stage demoing a racing game for Apple

OS Level Facebook integration (see below, same as iOS 6)

Shipping next month! For $19.99!

iOS 6 :
Siri gets smarter - you can now ask for comparisons between things, ask for things like the results of sports and the natural language processing seems to have improved.
'Eyes Free' - which is like 'hands free' for smartphones. Lots of car manufacturers are supporting it- BMW, GM, Land Rover, Merc, Toyota, Honda. Basically, it's a steering wheel control that will trigger Siri on a phone via bluetooth and route a spoken response via any in built hand free system.
Siri also going to be on the latest iPad. Only.
Facebook integrated the same way Twitter was in iOS 5.
Facebook integration with the app store app, so now you can 'like' app store apps if you want to. Did you? I didn't.
Update to the 'phone' app - you can now reply to incoming calls with a text message (chosen from a nested menu system) or set a reminder to call back at a certain time - without picking up the call.
'Do Not Disturb' - does just what it says - set a period of time and it won't make any noise or vibration. You can say 'except if this stuff happens, then tell me as you would normally'.
Facetime will now work over 3G, not just wifi.
Safari - 'iCloud tabs' - basically syncs the current state of Safari between devices. All devices - it's coming to ML too.
Reading List now has offline cacheing, not just a list of URLS any more.
Shared Photostreams - which I suppose is kind of cool.
Mail App gets the 'VIP' feature from ML mail.
'Passbook' - an app standard for all the boarding pass and ticket apps that you get - think Newsstand for that kind of stuff. Actually looks quite cool, but it'll need the providers to support it.
'Guided Access' - supercharged accessibility for partially sighted/blind.
New Maps app - local search, live traffic updates and traffic jam rerouting, turn by turn navigation, 3d landmarks... You can ask Siri 'are we there yet' On iPad has full 3d flythroughs of major cities (bet it's just US ones for now). Looks.. pretty damn fine actually.
Ships this Autumn for 3GS and later iPhones, 4th Gen or later iPod Touches and.. iPad 2 and onwards. iPod 1, no soup for you.

Well, plenty of stuff. But I think you can call the Mac Pro a goner. if they weren't going to update it now...

It has been updated, just not announced. And not a great update either...

Indeed. No USB 3, no Thunderbolt, no interest, no future. I've just seen it described as 'The iPod Classic of Macs'. It'll carry on being in the range and get enough of an update occasionally to not make it seem totally silly but it's patently obvious Apple don't actually give a crap about it any more.

They've put out a new Airport Express too. Looks a bit like a white Apple TV. However it now can't be used as a wall wart, which for me seems like a major step backwards. OK, it was always a large wall wart but at least it could...

Has the 17" MacBook Pro been discontinued?
