Came back from download festival to "the internets not working" router died, didnt want to do anything, so me being asleep, dad goes and buys a cisco/linksys x2000
whoever made the "install CD" has a place in hell reserved for him.
however, the problem!
wireless works fine for iphone/ipad/work nhs laptop. also works fine over ethernet (my pc)
the wireless to the main (and fairly old) computer however keeps dropping about every 3-5 seconds making it impossible to connect, it can show up as 100% signal then drop to non existent the old wifi worked fine until the router broke, and the new router is in the exact same place.
looked through the settings and I honestly have no idea how or what is causing this! any ideas? I do think its down to the pc, but I cannot find/think of anything I can do.

Only a wild guess, but maybe setting the Linksys to a slower older wireless standard might help. It's probably set to "mixed" at the moment, so try "G". Hopefully the PC isn't older than that!
Just for testing (don't leave it like it!) you could try turning off wireless security. It should be WPA2 for the best security, but maybe the old PC can't handle it.

CAn you get a wireless dongle from somewhere and use that as the connection for the PC rather than its built in wifi (or are you already using a dongle)
