Ok the box is running Win 7 premium 64 bit.

Its been getting loads of
"Microsoft Product: Windows Operating System; Version: 6.1.7600.16385; Event ID: 57; Event Source: Ntfs; warnings."

If I do a chkdsk it resolves it for a few days.

Time for a new hard drive? :?

Spinrite (from GRC.com) solves a lot of such problems.

Its level 2 scan will recover many drives, I've managed to recover failing drives from a dozen machines already. It is worth its weight in dead hard drives.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

There's various ways to read the data such as Speedfan, HD tune or CrystalDiskInfo.
