The machine specs have been released.
Also, you don't need to have Lion to upgrade as Snow Leopard users can upgrade directly. \•/

I'm still not clear whether my MBP is capable or not. My particular model doesn't seem to actually appear in the listings. I fear it most likely isn't supported, so it's Lion all the way for me until I can afford a new shiny.

I'd have thought given the changes don't seem too fundamental, anything that can run Lion can run Mountain Lion.

Polly can't have Mountain Lion.

Ars seems to think that some older graphics cards might be the culprit. Something to do with using 32-bit graphics drivers. We already knew about EFIs that couldn't do 64-bit, as that was the restriction for Lion, IIRC.

I'm happy at the moment, I bought two Macs last year which are both supported. I've been running the Developer Preview for several months now and going back, I find Lion strangely different. Mountain Lion all the way!

This is what confuses me.

Stratocruiser is running 64-bit Lion. It's at the low end of the min RAM specs, but system profiler tells me almost all the apps I'm running are now 64-bit. The CPU is a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo, which is higher than the basic one listed in those specs.

Theoretically, it will run Mountain Lion. But this actual model doesn't appear in the spec list: MacTracker identifies it as being discontinued in June 2007.

I guess we'll see. I am already resigned to not being able to run ML, so it won't be terribly painful if the old girl turns out to be obsolescent come the autumn.

My MBP is just one revision too old. So no ML for it. My MacPro will run it. The immediate problem is whether my ageing copy of Photoshop will work. I have no “stunt Mac” to test this time.

The problem is, I think, that you can have the OS X kernel running in 32-bit mode running on 64-bit hardware and running 64-bit apps. Some machines can't/won't run a 64-bit kernel (supported 64-bit kernels in 10.6). See here for instructions on how to find out if you are currently using a 64-bit kernel.

The problem with a 64-bit kernel is you can't run 32-bit kernel extensions, so some of the older graphics cards that have 32-bit drivers won't run in 64-bit mode. Mountain Lion requires you to run a 64-bit kernel.

It's all a bit messy in my opinion...

**NOTE** All of the above is one big 'I think'!

Ah, it's not a 64-bit kernel and extensions. No Mountain Lion for me then. I can stop worrying. :)

Looks like my MacPro just squeezes onto the list (2008 version) although I have put a Radeon 5770 in it so I should be okay on the graphics front.
The question is... can I actually be bothered?

I just realised that the rumoured date is the day after tomorrow!

WOOOOO!!

Really can't wait for Mountain Lion. There are a number of changes to the APIs that I've been looking forward to.

I also want to start Mac Dev and got a few ideas of apps I'm going to write. At least one app will be written for a presentation at work :D

I've been running the DP since it was released and I'm very pleased with it.

Don't you need to pay to be a Mac Developer? I wasn't sure if I needed to pay again (having already paid for iOS dev)?

When I tried to download it told me I wasn't eligible to download it. :(

Yes, it is a separate payment.
