So I decided to try out a tablet.

Maplin were (are?) selling 7" Scroll tablets for £70 - I couldn't resist.

It isn't going to worry the iPad, obviously, but it isn't bad. Android 4 ICS, Capacitive multitouch screen, two mini USBs, and mini HDMI output. Takes upto a 32Gb MicroSD card.

Battery life isn't great, and it isn't the most responsive tablet, but I only bought it for surfing the bog and lazy mornings in bed; and running Formula1.com's living timing screen while I watch the race on telly. ;)

Nice one. I'm already considering upgrading mine if the price is right with what's coming out of IFA

I took it back today.

Battery life seemed to get shorter and shorter in the few weeks I had it, and it developed a habit of emitting a faint crackle through the speakers when loading web pages - a common complaint, according to the chap at Maplin. Plus, it didn't get a lot of use.

Oh well, I learnt something anyway - I don't need a tablet.

£70 tablet wasn't much good.
Who'd have thought it?

Exactly the point I was trying to make.
