I probably ought to know the answer to this question, but I'm open to opinions.

I have a WD MyBook 2TB drive. It's a two-disk machine, configured using WD's utility as a RAID1 giving a 1TB usable space automagically mirrored to the other drive.

I originally used it to store an Aperture vault for my main image library. Now I'm breaking the library into smaller libraries, the main vault is really superfluous. I am thinking I'll use the WD as the main Aperture library disk, with a smaller external for when I go a-roving.

My question: can I just delete the files currently on the drive, or would it be better to use the WD Utility to reconfigure it?

If it were me, I'd want a fresh start and erase it and re-configure it - but that's maybe just my OCD kicking in. :o

I have to say I'm leaning in that direction anyway.

Oddly, today drives have been falling over all the shop. The MyBook simply disappeared from the desktop. No ifs, no buts, just powered off. First time it's done that ever, and I will put it down to poor ventilation under the shelf where I put it.

I hate tech. It's getting to annoy me now.

Remember, no file exists, unless:

3. There are at least 3 copies of it
2. There are copies on 2 different mediums
1. There is at least 1 copy off-site

Thanks, Dave. It's always worth being reminded.

I don't use optical media any more. How many DVDs would it take back up 360GB of images, and growing? That was also assuming (a) my DVD burner worked and (b) I trusted DVDs I've burned. I reckon a typical Dawn Raid nets around 170 images at roughly 22MB each, so that's just one DVD. Unedited, unprocessed RAW files, to boot.

So, currently, I meet the first criterion: at least three copies of everything. Scattered all over several disks. Confusing the heck out of me because I am beginning to forget which is the disk that's not got spoggly on me. :| :(

I am seriously considering a typewriter, and going back to pen and ink for drawing.

So if you go back to pen and paper remember

3. There are at least 3 copies of it
2. There are copies on 2 different mediums
1. There is at least 1 copy off-site ;)
