Quote:
Accessory manufacturers face a couple of significant hurdles in the race to produce add-ons for the iPhone 5 before Christmas.

In addition to introducing a brand new Lightning connector, Apple has, according to iLounge, also tightened the rules on its Made for iPhone/iPad/ iPod touch (MFi) scheme. Among the new rules is one that states that only manufacturing facilities approved by Apple can be used to assemble MFi accessories. So far, Apple hasn’t approved a single factory. The company plans to hold a seminar for manufacturers in China in November.

The second problem for manufacturers is the connector itself. Reports claim that it is difficult to manufacture and that could cause further delays. One company which had listed a Lightning adaptor on Amazon in the US has withdrawn it citing a ‘very critical functional issue.’

So does anyone here have the new phone yet, and is waiting for a new connector..?

I have two adapters and two spare cables from Apple at some point.

I only have one accessory (radio clock thing with iDevice dock) but I haven't used it in about six months.

Not I.
I'm waiting until I can walk in to an Apple Store and get my plastic swiped and I can walk out with the model of choice in a small white plastic bag.

I only have the lightning cable that came with the iPhone. I might get an adaptor at some point for the 3m cables. Apparently the lightning cable has a chip that makes cloning hard.

would this be the chip that is there to ensure Apple gouges as much money from people as possible/ensures quality accessories

It's not often that iDefend Apple but here goes: when human rights breaches are reported in factories making iGear the press goes into overdrive but when Apple try to stop the same mistakes from being made, which is what I choose to believe is the case here, they're still the bad guys.

Enough already!

I know one person with the iPhone 5, no complaints about not being able to buy another cable, as far as I've heard.

Didn't happen when I got the iPhone 4 on day of release so there's no reason why it should happen with the iPhone 5.

To be fair, you'll probably be fine. if you uses the maps app you may end up in Inverness, but you're unlikely to get mugged on the way.

I have an iPhone 5. I left my charger cable at work last week. Went into Carphone Warehouse over the road from my house and bought a spare. They had another 2 on the hook behind the counter.

Last weekend I went into the Apple Retailer in Carmarthen and they had plenty (probably about six or eight out on the shelves).
