Hey Guys! This is my first post to x404 just thought id make it brief

Ok got the P5K3 and its a ddr3 board so i had to swap ram from ddr2 to ddr3 and i was a lil stuck for cash so i only bought 2gb of ddr3

So should i but 2 more gb of ddr3 or should i buy an e6850 core 2 duo off ebay for £20 more.

What would benifit me most? I mainly use my system for games

Current CPU is Intel Pntium D Overclocked to 4.18GHz :D

Cheers Brad

A few Pics below :P Thanks for any help

Lol, I see you signed up. :)

You ought to just buy the extra 2 gig of RAM. But wait till that computer fair and we might get some cheap. Its not worth getting a C2D I dont think.

Pentium D isnt great to be honest. A Core2 or Quad would be much better for gaming.

Yes, they were. But his overclocked to 4.2 or so is faster than my Celeron when thats overclocked too. :)

Brad only plays Tetris and Sonic 2 anyway, so he won't see much of a difference anyway. :)

No, seriously. I lent his PC for a while (as you do :P) and found out that his PC plays games as smoothly as mine does, probably a bit faster due to the clock speed and cache. He has the 4mb cache model. Other than the slight variation in CPU and mobo, he has more or less the same spec as me. OC'd 9600GT, 2GB RAM, 640gb's worth of storage etc.

So there, Veato. ;)

I would still go for the better cpu. If you OC that then it will be even better if not you still have the better processor and even better extended the longevity of the system. Plus unless he has a 64 bit OS an extra 2gig of ram is wasted.

What cooler do you need for a P4 at over 4GHz? that has to be producing 200w of heat easy.

I'd go for a cpu upgrade & the extra RAM if it was cheap.

A Core2 would jump up and down on a Pentium D's head. So there. Add to that the fact they were power hungry and ran hotter than the surface of the sun. The fact is the Pentium D was never known for its gaming performance. Fair enough if he's only playing Sonic and tetris but save yourself a wad of cash and buy a Mega Drive.

@Sas,he uses the Akasa one that looks a bit like a F7P. Very good cooler. Never exceeds 60*C or so under Prime95 load.

@Veato - He probably would see a difference, but (IIRC) he has 64bit Vista on his machine. On his old motherboard (A nasty OEM gigash*te board:)) he had 4GB of ram. You can tell the difference.

at the end of the day though, its not up to me. Its not my money. :)

Lol yeh i suppose that it does run hotter than the sun and i think if the C2D bounced up and down on the p4d's head it would get hedache :P

Also since i only play tetris and sonic 2 yeah i suppose i wouldn'd see much of a difference :D:D:D:D:D

but what will increase my FPS in games the most for the meantime ???

Cheers guys 4 and help:P

Sell your ram, buy 2 of these (they do 1GB sticks as well), then get a new cpu

Are you sure you didn't borrow his PC? Oh and it should be leant, not lent.
Lent is when you give stuff up for 40 days, (I think)... something to do with God or Jesus or something, apparently.
