Guess that depends on how wide the 3G coverage is. I guess the same goes for 4G.
I hate how slow my mobile internet is when I get GPRS (slow) or Edge (unusable).
3G seems to be a rarity outside town centres.

4G definitely will be for quite some time.

Well I live in one of the cities where EE are rolling out 4G, but my current contract runs till April. So I see what the other providers are offering then.

I find 3G to be surprisingly good for coverage. I get it at my house in the middle of nowhere.

At work, if I set my phone by the window, it will pick up a 3G signal. If I use it anywhere in the building, it's gprs or no service. At home I can 3G but it's a bit pointless if I have wifi.

So, 36 quid for under 12 seconds data transfer per month... Doesn't seem very good to me.

Theoretically yes. But in reality it's unlikely you're ever going to get sent that much data that quickly anyway. However I do agree with the spirit of your argument. It seems to me if you're willing to pay the premium to buy an LTE device and an LTE contract of some sort, you're probably a more-than-casual user. In which case, 500MB of data a month really is.. well, it's below the minimum you would realistically use.

Personally, I'd have thought better of EE even if they'd still started their contracts at 36 quid but that contract had a bigger allowance. Say 2GB for 36 quid up to 8GB for 56 quid, to me that would have made more sense. Anyone only transferring 500MB a month doesn't really need an LTE connection in the first place, IMO.

This is a it weird. They've updated the website a bit and they have 'mobile broadband' and 'tablet' plans, the latter are a tenner a month more expensive than the former. Wah? In fact, their plans are a complete mess. They have 'mobile broadband', 'sim only' and 'tablet' plans, all of which charge a different fee for the same amount of data. Why would you not just buy the cheapest one?

I'm guessing mobile broadband & tablet deals already include the subsidy for the device (free dongle or discounted ipad etc)

Possibly. They're apparently not selling devices themselves though, they're saying you buy the device from Orange or T-Mobile. As I say, somewhat of a mess.

I'm guessing it's so we can transfer to them.
