Will anyone pay for a nudity-free Playboy iPhone app?

Historically there was a period in the 60's/early 70's where Playboy actually was worth reading for the articles. There were a series of interviews published in the mag that would be utterly sensational in any publication. Genuine world class journalism, along with pieces from famous high brow writers. You assume they were trying to take some kind of intellectual high ground compared to the rest of the adult industry which was just getting going in the new permissive age.

Christ knows if that's anything like true today though.

Playboy was actually quite invaluable for me when it came to writing my dissertation at university.
There was some seriously in-depth articles published in that magazine regarding the whole production process of Blade Runner.
There was stuff published by them that I just couldn't find anywhere else.

Mark

P.S. how about that for an unintentionally innuendo filled post about Playboy!

If they had an archive of previous articles then it could be viable. They did some interesting interviews IIRC. Certainly more adventurous than mainstream magazines.

IIRC they do have an archive, you just have to pay to get to them.

Even in the '80s Playboy was a good read sometimes. It was positively intellectual compared to modern "lad's mags", which are just low-brow soft porn and yet somehow more socially acceptable.

I'd have thought anyone buying it today probably is getting it for the articles, considering the amount of naked women online.

I have very fond memories of Playboy. The issue with an interview with Kevin Smith and a pictorial of Drew Barrymore certainly 'broke the ice' with one young lady in university.
