Apple announces WWDC 2013 offering an "indepth look" at iOS 7 and OS X 10.9...

Hmm, does this hint at 3D being the next headline feature?

This is when we find out what will be in the next devices. Until then we can have fun with the rumours.

I don't necessarily think so. WWDC is a developer's conference - unless there's something in the new devices that genuinely changes the way you code for Mac OS/iOS it's not the best place to announce such things. It's generally a more software orientated than hardware orientated place. We may see the rumoured redesigned Mac pro (coders will take all the RAM and CPU you can throw at them) but we're much more likely to see the next iOS and Mac OS, or at least a preview of what they will have that app developers need to account for.

Plus Tim Cook said at the recent profits announcement that they had no new device launches were planned before 'fall'. If they were launching something in a month or so, they'd definitely be planning that launch already and if it turned out Cook lied to investors there'd be hell to pay.

Apple can announce things any time it wants to, doesn't mean they will be instantly available to the public.

It's usually at the WWDC keynote that they "sneak peek" some of the features of the new OS versions. Not the devices though.

There's been hardware announcements at the WWDC. The Mac Pro was announced at a WWDC.

The audience at WWDC is entirely, 100% registered Apple developers. All of whom have paid a frankly whacking sum to be there. The last thing Apple are going to do is waste their time announcing the iPhone 5S when it may, from a developer perspective, be absolutely no different to the iPhone 5 at all. They will announce new hardware at WWDC if the changes in that hardware are ones the majority of developers will have to know about before it goes on sale i.e. if it's something new that will need app support to be useful, or if that hardware is one developers might themselves see value in (which is pretty much just the Mac pro tbh). Otherwise it will be the OS roadmap, either mobile or desktop or both.

You don't ask people to spend a grand and a half to go to something then spend the first part of it telling them stuff they don't need to know.

Yes but the new features are probably more important than the devices. It gives a sense of direction to future changes.

The Mac Pro, iPhone 3G, the 3GS, MacBook Pro and iPhone 4 were all WWDC announcement. In fact, in recent years, there's only been a couple that haven't had a hardware announcement of some kind.
But yeah, if it's not got some whizzy new gadget you'll want to take advantage of, they'll likely not mention it.

A colleague went ahead and ordered an iMac last night. I kind of think he should've waited a week.

Doesn't seem to be any talk of new iMacs. Some rumour of new Macbook Pros and as always speculation about a Mac Pro replacement.

Some of the US department stores appear to have dropped prices on their iMac inventory - whether or not this reflects an anticipatory move in case they need to make space or something more concrete I don't know.
http://buyersguide.macrumors.com reckons it's approaching the end of this current cycle, but as ever, wait and see, wait and see.
I'd have waited a few more days just in case.

iOS 6 icons vs. iOS 7 icons.
I prefer the old FaceTime, but I really like the new compass.
