Not sure if this is news, gadgets or Internet. Anyone feel free to move it.

Very clever tech, but with only a 2km range it's unlikely to reach many places. Great for high-density populations though.

I'm not entirely convinced that the physical speed of the link from your phone to the base station is usually even an issue. My phone often takes 30 seconds or more to load a fairly simple page, which could theoretically download in just 1 or 2 seconds on dial-up. Speed test then returns a result of 10megs :?

It might be overkill for phones right now but it would make streaming to tablets a good option. The short range might mean lower contention but also higher costs or sharing towers.
