Hey all.

My monitor is dying. It's maybe 6 or 7 years old and the contrast is slowly disappearing so pretty much everything is white. Also I could do with something bigger.

I've seen this and it seems suspiciously cheap for what it is.

Does it seem OK to you guys? (Not used for gaming, mainly movie watching and programming).

What's the best monitor size these days for pixel density? ie sharpness?#

Shame Sharp no longer make monitors because I've still got one from 2004 which is just as bright as ever and bomb proof, I'll be sad to see ti go, but come August time I'm going to invest in the extra horizontal of a widescreen so I can see zerglings a bit sooner.

I've just had to buy a couple of monitors for work and I couldn't stretch to the eizo I bought myself for my colleague, so I got this which I'm really, really impressed with: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005LNDPPS

No idea how that compares to the one you posted Oliver as I got a 404 when following your link. Just putting it out there as a great monitor for the money.

Looks good. I'm fairly narrow in my needs for a monitor for work, the only thing I'm interested in is colour reproduction, which is what has really impressed me about that dell.

Yeah dells are really good for that. I noticed your dell is 1920x1200 and mines 1920x1080. But I'm not too bothered. I mainly need horizontal space.

Should arrive Tuesday anyway :-)

That's the thing with home monitors, all that really matters is watching movies, the extra depth is useful to me as it means being able to see an a3 spread at a reasonable approximation to actual size. Not that I do so much print work anymore, but old habits die hard!

Foggin, are you sure they didn't just get the resolution figures wrong when quoting it? I'd be surprised if you can't have 1920 by 1200

Dunno. For the size and price I can understand being a lower res.

Will find out when it arrives :-)

Pretty much all 27" displays I've seen have conformed to the 16:9 aspect ratio (so Full HD 1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1440).
16:10 ratio displays (1920 x 1200 for example) are getting harder to find outside of the pro targeted market as they cost more to make than ones based on TV resolutions.

I've just picked up a Dell Ultrasharp U2413 and I have to say it's pretty damn good although with a little more light bleed round the bottom right hand corner than the NEW 2090UXi it replaced.
