I’ve been using Billings for a few years to, well, just issue invoices. Any other accounting larks are handled by a spreadsheet. Anyway, Billings is being discontinued in favour of Billings Pro, which is (wait for it) a paid subscription. Prices range from $5 PCM to $99 per year depending on which level of service you want. Billings did all I need. Billings Pro does more that I’m unlikely to use. At its cheapest, which is $5 a month, I’m limited to 5 invoices a month http://www.marketcircle.com/billingspro/pricing/ (Well, there is a free option - 1 invoice per month....) So before I decide whether or not to plonk down $99 a year (which is their best priced option), I’m wondering if anyone out there could recommend a different app? |

If you have an iPad then Quick Sale is well worth a look - about £20 for the 'Pro' version, been using it for just over a year and it's done the job very nicely; iPad only though, no Mac version. Otherwise Invoice2go seems OK - subscription service, though £35/year gets you 100 invoices, 50 clients. |

I guess £35 a year is a better deal than $99 - though I am bothered by the idea of subscription software as data will just be inaccessible unless you pay up. I'll have a look at the alternatives - though I don't think that an iPad only solution is going to cut it. It's not like Billings is going to stop working tomorrow. They have promised support until 2014. |

TBH, that's what I thought too - and yet over a year later, it's been faultless <shrug> For a lot of sole-traders, most 'invoicing and accounts'-type apps are overkill, and like yourself I'm leery of subscription-based services. Trouble is, we may only produce a few dozen invoices or estimates a year and only to a few dozen clients, so we don't want to pay much - who's going to create an app that caters to that demographic, that isn"t subscription-based? Quick Sale is the best I've found. £20, you own it, it's yours forever. They do occasional free trials - it's well worth a look, seriously. Be interested to hear what you decide on - keep us posted. |
