Is there a way to get a Kindle to automatically sync? I have 2 Kindles, a tablet and a smartphone. Very occasionally my Kindle will offer to sync to the last known position, but generally it won't.
For example, my fiancé read a book in July, I am reading it now on my Kindle and my tablet. Yesterday afternoon, I tried to sync my tablet to the last position read (i.e. Saturday evening), but it only offered to sync it to the position from 13th July! I manually found the right page and read a further 40 pages, before going to bed. In bed, I told my Kindle to sync, but it only offered the July sync as an option. Back on the tablet today and it is still offering the 13th July as the last known sync position!

Not entirely sure this is what you want, but might be useful anyway http://www.macworld.com/article/2011405 ... vices.html

Thanks, but that doesn't help, as we are talking about books bought on Amazon directly.

Are they all registered to the same account? (Amazon.com link) Syncing is something I've never messed about with http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/ ... 660#syncon

Yep, all on the same account.
I'm thinking that it register the highest page number read, not the current position in the book. That means, if my fiancé had read the whole book and I start reading it a month later, it will only offer me the last page of the book as the sync point, even if 3 other devices have newer page references earlier in the book.
