Odd question here - not quite a Mac question more of a general knowledge of electronics/apple question.

I bought a broken iPod mini to fix up as I thought mine was lost. (Turns out mine wasn't and i've not got a 16GB iPod mini >.<) It arrived today and it has some rather intriguing problems..

First nothing happens when plugged into the computer, doesn't even detect a USB device.

Second, when plugged into a wall charger the thing gets too hot to hold.

Third, upon putting in a battery and hard drive I know to work perfectly, it still does not work, and the same overheating problems when charging.

Anyone know what could be up with this? I'm not too fussed if it decides to die as my current iPod mini could do with a new case and this one is in pristine condition!

Sounds like some issue with the circuitry. I think the smoke's trying to get out of the wires.
