Just a quick heads up for those who haven't tried it yet. When it restarts after the update, it asks you for your password as normal.

However, it defaults to the US keyboard layout, so if you have certain symbols in your password (@ or £ for instance) you might have a problem. Simple solution is to change the password to a simple one before starting.

Tried downloading it last night. Left it still running when I went to bed. Got up this morning saying the update had failed, my system had been rolled back and one of Microsoft's 0x00008<blah> errors.

Outstanding.

My Dad has a new windows 8 lappy he's struggling with. A 4GB download is simply unfeasible on his internet connection. Anyone know how to get the update onto a USB stick?

Update : You can't. It's only available via the windows 8 store. Out[LIFTED]Standing.

Can you download the update and copy it across to a USB stick?

Apparently only if the PC you want to ship it to has a similar spec as the one you're shipping it from. The download from the store is tailored somewhat to the PC that requests it.

I can understand that to some extent, but I thought windows had everything in one OS? The alternative is to get your Dad's laptop to somewhere where there is better connection and try again.

Mine had the option to change the keyboard layout (laptop), on the tablet, the keyboard is shown on screen anyway.

It is tailored as:

Windows 8.1 or 8.1 Professional, pro with media player
32 or 64-bit.

I've updated 3 PCs so far with no problems.

The bitness is the important part of the equation. A Pro should update core of the same bitness.

Fiance didn't notice the "Tastatur ändern" button on the bottom right and couldn't work out why her password wasn't being accepted, so she rolled back, but then the wifi connection was gone, so she couldn't get on the Internet anyway.

Ran it again last night, changed the keyboard layout and it was a little smoother after that - except it was insisting on sending SMS to her old mobile number, not very useful. Luckily she had her email address on there as well, so I managed to get the security code over her iPhone.

I'm seeing a lot better battery life on my tablet. I'm having to recharge it every 2 to 3 days, probably a 20 - 30% difference over 8.0.

Touch wood, the random total battery drain is also gone.

My mate Steve had the same issue.
