Got it. Everything still seems to work, although this is only on my Macbook Air so I haven't done anything heavyweight. All my apps still seem to run fine, all the new stuff works. The new calendar app is actually rather swish, i'm going to see if I prefer it to busycal for a while.
The new finder tabs are a bit of a pain since Finder doesn't launch windows with a tab bar visible, so you always have to go to the menu to get a second tab. That may be fixable, I'll see if I can find it.

Does CMD T open a new tab?

Yup. There is also a plus at the end of the tab bar once it's visible, just like safari. It seems if you get a window up and select 'show tab bar' from the view menu it does then respect that for any further windows you open. We'll see.

New safari is rather nice (and available for 10.8 via the software update I think). The new start page is much more presentable IMO and it all feels much smoother and snappier. Maps for Mac OS seems fun too, especially the 'flyover' stuff.

iCloud keychain is interesting. When you set up a new Mac on it, it asks you to verify it on a mac you already have. It's a bit weird but it all works smoothly. I use 1password so I'm not sure what it'll do for me though.

New iWork apps are up on the app store. Not free - 14 quid each. But my god they're gorgeous.

First gotcha - Apple Remote Desktop won't run. Says the app is out of sync with the installed client version and tells you to go to software update. No new version evident there. I can manage without but if you can't...

It is going to be a while for me to install it. At the moment it is saying more than 11 hours for both machines with all the other updates as well. There are loads of big iOS updates as well. Also updates will need to be loaded once 10.9 is installed, such as iMovie.

They've fixed the remote desktop issue already - version 3.7 now available on the app store. Plus a point update for iTunes, although i can't see what it does that is new.

I cheated. I turned off one machine as it was generating loads of traffic from an App Store and it was not downloading anything. Downloaded the install app on one machine and before it finalised the install and deleted the update I copied it across my network saving another big download. So now sifting in front of two iMacs with 36 and 44 minutes before the updates are completed. So will YouTube cat videos for the next hour while it updates them both.

The tabbed finder is not as useful as I had hoped for. Previously I was using an app called totalfinder which was great with different windows. I reinstalled totalfinder.

Ermahgerd. I think they changed the order of 'Open in New window/ Open in new tab' in Safari for no useful reason at all other than to screw up my muscle memory.

So change it back. Control-click on the toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar…, shuffle to your heart's content and click OK.

Installed it today on my work iMac. Haven't noticed any changes yet. Everything still works.

Not toolbar, right click menu. Getting used to it.
