Post subject: | Initial thoughts on the new Macbook Pros |
Saturday saw a rather significant departure from my usual computer habits of Windows based home make desktop machines. I purchased a nice shiny new Macbook Pro. It's the top of the line 'stock' version, a 15" Retina model with a 2.3GHz Creswell CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB PCIe hard drive and a Geforce GT 750M GPU with 2GB of dedicated memory. It's a hell of a lot of processing power packed into an incredibly small space. The definite highlight so far has been the screen. It really is in another league to anything else I've used in terms of clarity and vibrancy. I actually prefer reading on the screen to reading paper now. Even at only 15 inches in size (I'm a complete whore for lots of screen space) I already prefer it to my 24" Dell monitor. The machine as a whole is also phenomenally light considering it's specs. It almost makes me wonder what the point of the Airs is. Yes I know that they are lighter, but if you need your laptop to be that much lighter you possibly need to be consulting with a medical profession about some basic strength training. Wireless, which seems to have something of a poor reputation in certain circles, is absolutely rock solid. It's got the new 802.11ac standard (although our router is only 802.11n) and it gives good reception even in areas of our house that normally don't get great signal strength. It's also really, really fast for everything. Which is bliss. |

Sounds like a nice bit of kit, Jon, and I really hope you two are very happy together lol. No, seriously, it does sound solid. How much did that cost? Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk 4 |

Unit cost is £2200; I also purchased a warranty extension to 3 years for £280. |
